ContentLearning a body of knowledge is important for all content fields. Rather than focus on a rote list of historic people, dates, and/or events, many historians have chosen instead to highlight specific themes in history and the patterns that can be associated between and among those themes. This is a more inclusive model, and it strays from the dogmatic approach of listing specific people, dates, and events that must be taught. The danger in creating such a list is that the biases that go along with it are unavoidable. Below is an example of some themes throughout history that serve as umbrellas over many sheltered historical topics:
